The purpose of my work is is to empower individuals with the skills, competence, and healing needed to live joyous and productive lives.


You may have an alcohol or drug problem if you:

  • Struggle to moderate substance use.

  • Desire to cut down or control use, but are unable to do so.

  • Use larger amounts over a longer time period than intended.

  • Experience withdrawal - Use a substance to relieve or avoid symptoms, such as drinking or using drugs first thing in the morning to:

    • Steady your nerves.
    • Get rid of a hangover.
    • Just to start the day.
  • Experience tolerance - a need for more and more of the substance to feel intoxicated or high.
  • Have given up important social, occupational, or recreational activities because of substance use. 
  • Continued to use a substance despite knowing it was making a physical or psychological problem worse, such as:
    • An ulcer.
    • Diabetes / hypoglycemia.
    • Depression.
    • Anxiety.

 

  • Experience negative consequences of substance use:
    • Feel annoyed when people criticize or comment on your drug or alcohol use.
    • Have ever felt bad or guilty about your use.
  • Spend a great deal of time:
    • Obtaining the substance.
    • Using the substance.
    • Recovering from its effects
  • Continued to use, despite the threat of losing (or loss of) a valued relationship.
  • Drive or operate machinery while under the influence of substances.
  • Have substance-related legal problems (DWI, PI)
